Copa Truck is Brazil’s most important truck racing series. It was created in 2017 out of the older Fórmula Truck, whose roots go back to 1987. Racing takes place in the Super Truck Pro and Super Truck Elite classes.
In 1987 truck driver Aurélio Batista Félix and journalist Francisco Santos organised the first race, which back then had 35 drivers and around 20,000 spectators. This became Fórmula Truck. In 2017 nine teams left the series after a dispute with its management and founded Copa Truck. The first round took place in Goiânia on 28 May 2017, and in November 2017 the Brazilian automobile federation recognised the series as an official championship.
The classes are Super Truck Pro and Super Truck Elite. A weekend consists of two qualifying sessions and four races. The top ten in qualifying go through to the SuperPole, which sets the grid for the first race. In the following races the top eight positions are reversed. There are nine events a year, with around 36 drivers from twelve teams taking part.
Felipe Giaffone won the first title in 2017 and, since 2023, three championships in a row, always in a Volkswagen run by team R9 Competições. Beto Monteiro took two titles, in 2019 and 2020. In between, André Marques won in 2021 and Wellington Cirino in 2022, both in a Mercedes-Benz.
Copa Truck races all over the country: from Goiânia and Campo Grande in the Centre-West, via Cascavel, Londrina and Chapecó in the South, to Interlagos in São Paulo. Interlagos has been on the calendar every year since 2017. In 2026 Cuiabá, Curvelo and Brasília are also part of the calendar.
