Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC for short): the European Championship under the umbrella of the FIA, the international automobile federation. Here you can find out how points are scored, how a race weekend works, what the trucks have to be capable of and who is Titan and who is Chrome. As of: 2026 season.
Why the Chrome classification exists, what it used to be called and who has won it.

Why does it exist?
In truck racing, two groups compete in the same race: Titan and Chrome. Titan is made up of the drivers with the greatest success in recent years; everyone else races in Chrome. The two groups are classified separately. That way, even a driver who is not fighting for overall victory has a goal of their own: their own podium, their own trophies and their own title. When it was introduced in 2017, the series called these drivers the foundation of the championship.
Who is Titan, who is Chrome?
A categorisation committee of the series assigns the drivers. In 2026 a driver is Titan if they were European Champion in the last 10 years, finished in the top seven of the 2025 overall classification or reached the third qualifying segment (Q3) twice in 2025. The previous year’s Chrome Champion can also move up. Everyone else is Chrome. Drivers can only switch between seasons. All the criteria are listed in the Participation and categorisation tab.

In 2017 the classification started out as the Promoters Cup. In 2018 and 2019 it was called the Grammer Truck Cup after its sponsor. In 2021 it ran as the Promoters Cup again, and in 2022 and 2023 as the Chrome classification. Since 2024 it has been an official FIA title, the Chrome European Championship. In 2020 the championship was cancelled because of the Covid pandemic. Sources: Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship, FIA. As of: end of the 2026 season (Jarama).
The weekend
In 2026 there are seven rounds: Misano, Slovakiaring, Nürburgring, Most, Zolder, Le Mans and Jarama.
Each round has four races, two on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Example from Most 2026: each race is 11 laps of 4,212 metres, around 46 kilometres in total.
Example from Most 2026: up to 30 trucks may take part in practice and qualifying, and 24 in the races.
Qualifying
Qualifying sets the starting grid for races 1 and 3. It runs in three segments, each with fewer trucks:
Segment 1: 15 minutes, all trucks.
Segment 2: 10 minutes, the 12 fastest from segment 1.
Segment 3: 5 minutes, the 6 fastest from segment 2. This segment decides the first three rows of the grid.
Before race 1 the segments are called Q1 to Q3; before race 3 on the second day, Q4 to Q6.
Starting grid
Races 1 and 3: based on qualifying.
Races 2 and 4: based on the result of the previous race, but with the top eight in reverse order (reversed grid). So the winner starts from 8th place, the runner-up from 7th, and so on.
From 9th place down, the finishing order stays the same.
Rules on track
Speed is limited to 160 km/h.
Too much black smoke: a warning the first time, exclusion the second time.
Weight and speed
Minimum weight: 5,300 kilograms including the driver, of which at least 3,150 kilograms must be on the front axle.
Any shortfall in weight may be made up with fixed ballast blocks between the chassis rails. Maximum weight: 6,500 kilograms.
Speed limit: 160 km/h. Every truck must have an FIA-approved speed-measuring device.
Engine
Maximum displacement of 13 litres. The engine comes from a production truck range (at least 100 units built), though not necessarily from the cab’s manufacturer.
A single-stage turbocharger. The FIA supplies the air restrictor: 63 millimetres with one turbo, 44.5 millimetres per turbo with two.
According to the series, power is around 1,200 hp and torque around 6,000 newton metres.
Mandatory: a lambda sensor in the exhaust. The FIA sets the permitted value.
Tyres and fuel
Tyres: Goodyear, size 315/70 R 22.5, each tyre with a chip and an embossed number. At least 2 millimetres of tread; regrooved or hand-grooved tyres are banned.
The 2025 race tyre is made of 55 per cent sustainable materials. Used race tyres are retreaded and reused as normal truck tyres.
Fuel: 100 per cent renewable biofuel (HVO), supplied by TotalEnergies. In use since the 2021 season.
Safety and appearance
Roll cage made of seamless steel tubing, racing seats to FIA standard, on-board fire extinguisher.
The side windows are made of clear polycarbonate (at least 3.8 millimetres thick).
The cab keeps the dimensions and appearance of the original. The 2026 field includes Iveco, Freightliner, MAN, Scania and Ford.
